EVENT INFORMATION

Buses 

The Start/ Finish Area is approx. 10km along Puketona Road from Paihia. The is NO parking available at the event for Participants. All spectators must pre-purchase a spectator bus ticket prior to the event.

Parking 

  • We cannot allow parking on site due to the disruptions this will cause to traffic.

Start Line

 

Paihia, Northland - approx. 10km along Puketona Rd from Paihia. 

Start Time

  • 11.00 am – all participants MUST be at the safety briefing by 10.45 am

  • The Event Organisers reserve the right to modify the start times if required

Gear Drop

There will be an option available for participants to store gear at the start/finish area while out on course. Gear can be left at the registration tent which is located at start/finish. All gear must be clearly labelled with your event number. You will need to present your event number to collect your gear. While all reasonable care is taken of gear, Sport Northland is not responsible for any lost or damaged items. Please do not leave valuables.

Aid Stations 

  • This event is cupless. Either bring your own water bottle or you can buy one of the re-usable cups.

  • There will be one drink station positioned on the course (Subject to conditions).

  • Toilets are located in the start/finish area.

  • There will be no toilets on the course.

  • We advise you to bring a drink bottle or source of water with you.

Timing and results 

  • The event will use a timing system.

  • All participants will have their time recorded by an electronic strip connected to the back of their event number.

  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you are wearing the event number that has been registered to you.

  • Please do not mix these up with other participants.

  • Gun time will be used for official results.

Awards Ceremony

  • Place getters will be acknowledged at the finish area at approximately 12:30 pm

  • Men's winner trophy

  • Women's Winner trophy

  • Top/Fastest Team winner trophy (fastest time based on the average of all team members)

  • Best Dressed Prize - Get your whanau/friends together and create an awesome fancy costume and you could be into win a prize.

  • We have over 50 spot prizes so make sure you check to see if your number is showing on the spot prize board, if it is then you are a winner. Head over to the admin tent to collect your prize.

What to wear/bring

  • We recommend ThermaTech’s great range of merchandise we have available on our website when you enter.

  • It is compulsory to wear covered in shoes during the event and should be taped on to prevent loss in the mud/creeks.

  • Football or rugby boots with studs are acceptable, however, boots with aluminium studs or running spikes are not permitted.

  • It could be cold, and you will get wet and muddy, therefore you will need to bring with you a towel, dry set of clothes, warm hat, jumper, plastic bag and dry shoes following the event.

Showers

  • There are no showers available however the Paihia Volunteer Fire Brigade will be hosing participants off once finished (if you would like to be hosed off) before catching the shuttle bus back into Paihia, so bring a towel. This will be cold water so one last chance to get that heart rate up at the event!

Bib collection

If you entered as a super early bird or early bird entrant and opted for postage, then your race number will be posted out. If you opted to collect your race number see organised pickup location below.

  • Pickup location: Sport Northland – 97 Western Hills Drive, Kensington, Whangarei

  • Pickup date & time: 26 August 2021 - 8.00am - 5.30pm

OR

  • Pickup location: Outside the Bay of Islands Fullers GreatSights HQ in Paihia CBD

  • Pickup date & time: 28 August 2021 - 8.00am - 10.15am (before jumping on the bus). Allow plenty of time so you don't miss the bus!

  • All participants who enter after the cut-off for postage (approx. 21 days out) will need to collect their race number as per the organised location above.

Event Safety Information

  • The event is held on private land, please always respect the owner's land and animals.

  • Take extreme care throughout the course, as it is off-road and includes rugged uneven terrain.

  • Where there is a marked-out area for participants, you are always required to remain within the area.

  • Marshals will be wearing high-visibility vests and are there for your safety. Always follow their instructions and those of the event organisers.

  • The course will be clearly marked, this will be explained at the safety briefing on the event day.

  • Please do not touch any of the fences as some of them are electric, only follow the marked course.

  • Please be aware that the course contains beekeeping boxes in areas, which means there will be bees so please keep this in mind while on course.

  • A tail marshal will be following the last participant. If assistance is required, please stop and wait for the tail marshal or notify the nearest marshal.

  • No animals are permitted to accompany participants during the event or allowed on the property.

  • Children under the age of 15 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

  • As you will be running through mud, crossing rivers, and handling rope to assist you getting up and down hills below are a few precautions to limit the possibilities of getting sick/injured/infections/cuts and/or bruises.

  • Do not swallow any mud or get any in your mouth

  • Cover any cuts/scratches to ensure they do not get infected–seek medical advice prior to the event if unsure

  • When entering mud, please be cautious and be aware of what may lie beneath as there could be branches etc. that could cause you to trip or cut yourself (over time after hundreds of participants have been through it, it gets deeper and may churn up old branches etc.)

  • Be cautious entering any mud as you don’t know how deep it is

  • If you are sick on event day or in the days leading up to it, do not participate. Your illness may be contagious and may put other participants at risk.

  • Wear gloves to assist with grip and to avoid rope burn.

  • Tape and/or support ankles to avoid sprains as this course is on a farm and the terrain is rugged.

  • Wear long leggings, socks, and long sleeves as there is gorse, branches etc. on the course (we have cut branches etc. overhanging the course but can’t get it all)

Cancellation

 

In the unlikely event of cancellation notice will be given on Northland’s More FM 91.6 and on our Facebook Page. Where possible attempts will be made to email participants, who have supplied an email address with their entry. While we will endeavour to make a decision to cancel an event as early as possible due to the nature of such events situations can occur quickly and without warning close to the start of an event.
